Horn switch

Post by skychs »

Did BMW design the horn switch for the left or right hand controls? My 1966 R60/2 has the chrome controls and the horn is on the left control. My 1967 R69S has the Hella batwing style controls and it appears to be wired to the right hand controls. TIA

Yes
the right hand batwing switch is also for the horn
I wired mine for emergency kill because with my fairing and side car it is easy kill engine going down hill for a faster stop

Could you briefly explain how you did that kill switch. I 'd like to do the same.
Thanks

remove wire (green) from switch board HO going to right hand switch #3
connect wire from right switch #3 to #2 wire on switch board
left hand switch for high/low/horn will still work

#3 wire from right switch now gets grounded when button is pushed down to kill spark

Thanks for posting a photo of the inside of the switch. It motivated me to take mine apart to look around. The wires and connections were all good but the metal plate inside was very corroded. With a brass brush and some dielectric grease the switch is working much better now.

If you look at pic in Salis site and click on details it will show 6 pictures of the switch with terminals used in horn,left/right position

I use contact cleaner to clean and then fill the switch housing with dielectric grease to keep moister out
