R26 seat spring help

Hi folks,

I have a 1956 R26; the solo seat spring is very weak. I bought a new spring, but it seems just a hair too small as far as the interior diameter, such that the fixtures that screw into the ends of the spring won’t screw in. Just as each fixture is about to go in, it pops out.

Is there a trick to this? Thank you!

Hi, what I did with mine was to cut the spring a little shorter! With a small disc grinder I cut about an inch or so from off one end of the coil ,then screwed it back on ,that was 4,000 miles ago and still good.

Andrew and J Wonder, that's what I did as well, and it seems to be much better. But I hate that I bought a new spring, and I can't get it assembled, when it is such a simple thing...
