R69S 6 volt LED lighting upgrade

Post by germancarguy »

I am in the process reassembling my 6 volt R69s and am looking for suggestions for LED headlight, taillight and bar end directional upgrades.

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul-

vintagebmw.org

Give Mike a call, he's got a kit, and he usually sends out same day.
Best-

Another option. Works great on my 1959 R50.

Re: R69S 6 volt LED headlight a heads up

Post by vechorik1373 »

Be aware that the original filament bulb had each filament at a different heights. The original bulb was 35 / 35 watt. High beam was not any brighter, BUT... That was done, so when you flipped from low beam to high beam, the source of the light moved from one filament to the other, and the parabolic focused the light differently. In other words, when you went to high beam, the beam rose up and illuminated the signs and further down the road.

The light source of a LED headlight bulb is FIXED. While the LEDS get brighter, the beam will NOT rise up to see further down the road. It will shine on the same spot on the road, but just be brighter. It will not illuminate the signs up ahead, unless you physically tip the headlight bucket up.

Just keep that in mind when switching to an LED headlight bulb.
