EDIT...so it looks like the main switch housing (the part that attaches to the handlebar) is the same for /2 and /5, at least according to the parts fiche on Bobs BMW. Can I simply buy the larger switch and swap?

The correct era switch, has tiny screw terminals on the back side, to attach the harness to the switch.
These are the part numbers you would need in order to put the correct switch in place.
61 31 8 048 183 -- Hella turn signal switch with horn contact R27-R69S RHS
61 12 8 060 012 -- harness directional switch to bucket R26-R69S
The existing switch base, that is on the perch, will accept the earlier style switch, so you can reuse it.

That is perfect! Thank you! I assume I just need to remove the two small screws to remove the existing rotary switch?vechorik1373 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 11:03 am

Correct. Remove them, and pull the the switch out of the base. The existing harness will have to be disconnected inside the headlight bucket, and then the harness will pull through the switch base.

Instead of doing that can I just cut the wires from the existing rotary switch and then screw them into the terminals on the back of the new rotary switch?vechorik1373 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 1:54 pmYou wrote: That is perfect! I would not do that. The wires of the /5 switch are OLD. And stiff. And, if you cut them, and strip the insulation off, You must twist, and wrap the wires around the end of an ice pick, to make a loop that just the correct size that fits the tiny terminal screw. And you must tin the loop with solder. Make too big, you can short things. also you want to confirm the function of each lead, new switch versus old /5 switch . Don't cheap out on us, do it right. You may cause yourself a lot of grief, otherwise.

Got it. Will take your advice. One last question...is that part # for the wiring harness right? A search doenst bring up anything.vechorik1373 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 3:48 pmYou wrote:
