R26 Transmission Shifter Bushing Upgrade?

Post by VintageJim »

I am rebuilding my R26 transmission and am replacing many of the parts including bushings and bearings, and found the shifter shaft bushing had substantial changes that first made me think I got the wrong bushing. Please take a look to let me know if my assumptions of assembly are correct! The old bushing is in the picture and has the thick shoulder on the end of the bushing. It appears the bushing has been redesigned with a shoulder in the middle and a spacer ring for the bottom. The Barrington book calls out many of the upgrades but I could not find this one. The pictures show how the two holder forks go below the shoulder and then the spacer at the bottom. Above the shoulder goes the washer and then the forked spring. It all fits very nicely and seems much more stable than the old bushing with everything just stacked on top of each other and needed a tie wrap to hold it together.
