Oil Pan Face Flattening R50/2

Morning all,
On the weekend i thought i would change the oil and drop oil pan to check the strainer.

All went well except when i dropped the oil pan off i noticed that around a couple of hold down bolts holes the outside were raised where they had been tightened on to the cork gasket and have have deflected.

Anyony have any tips on getting this face flat again as i am nervous about overworking the pan.

Don't know really if hammering it back against a flat will do the trick, but regarding oil & filtering etc - I always have a chunky loudspeaker magnet attached to the pan from the outside, near the outlet plug.

So easy to do,put a small piece of flat metal there....underneath the protrusion,and hit it with a small ball peen hammer,will take about 15 minutes or less.

Yes easy to fix as per previous suggestion.

The real issue I believe is what causes the over tightening in the first place.
The problem I believe is over-tightening caused by the fact that the holes for most of the bolts go through to the sump. So the oil finds it's way down the threads - so when the sump is leaking, the assumption is that more tightening will fix the problem.

On one of my engines I have installed blind fixtures into all the holes and now I have no leaking and only use modest torque to tighten the sump. I also do not need to use any sealant - just the cork gasket.

I know this is not an operation that most people would consider - but it has addressed the issue of a leaking sump gasket and made regular cleaning of the sump a breeze.

I have seen people use suitably sized rectangles of metal to spread the load around the holes in the metal sump - but that wont stop the leak, just the distortion.

Used a small arbor press on mine with some small square tubing backup.

I lubricate the cork gasket with motor oil before installing and put a little Permatex Silver gasket stuff on the bolt threads. No Leaks!

I got a 3/8 punch and flattened it out, worked out well with a new silicon gasket. The only thing i did notice was being careful with torquing up sump bolts as it squeezed out gasket if too tight.
