R69S mufflers

Post by strichzwei »

I have an R69S that has R50/R60/2 mufflers on it and it seems to run fine. I am interested in getting a correct set though.
I understand the diameter of the R69S is a bit larger, can someone tell me what that diameter is?
Who manufactures/sells the best quality (original looking) mufflers for an R69S right now?
thanks,
Scott

Yes, and be careful with headpipe diameter. There are two sizes.

Also you may need to change the jetting.

Kehein shipped from UK for SS.

I don't know where you are, but I put a nasty dent in one of my mufflers and would being interested in the 90mm silencers you would be removing.

Thank you

Tell me about the two different header diameter. When I restored my R69, I used the commonly available R69/R69S header pipes with the also commonly available R50/R60 mufflers (it's what BMW used on the R69 - the R69S mufflers did not exist until '61). Everything fit up just fine. Was I just lucky?

All the R 69 S pipes are 36mm diameter pipes, but there are 38mm pipes and later 40mm pipes for conversions. I know the mufflers come in several sizes for the inlet pipe diameter because of this. I believe all R 69 S mufflers are 100mm output diameter.

All R51/2 thru R69S bikes use 36mm OD exhaust pipes. There are aftermarket vendors who make 38mm systems to accommodate conversion bikes that use a /5 or /6 engine in a Slash 2 style frame (38mm OD pipes were used on /5 era bikes and 38mm and 40mm OD exhaust pipes were used on /6 era machines.)

Thanks.

Just FYI, Keihan offer both 36mm and 38mm stainless mufflers for the R69S: http://www.keihan.co.uk/stainless.html

Jon,
I believe the Keihan 38mm inlet mufflers you refer to are specifically for the conversion bikes I referenced above. Thanks for the link though. I may need a pair for a conversion project I will be starting soon :)
