Center Stands - R25/3 and R26-R27

Post by swagsherman »

Hello.

I'm trying to figure out whether the center stand currently installed on my 1955 R25/3 is correct or not. When on the center stand, the bike is so high off the ground it's impractical to start on the center stand and is very difficult to even get it up on the center stand due to the height (puts rear tire about 2 1/4" off the ground).

The R26 and R27 stands look very similar the way they mount. I was wondering if there were differences in the dimensions of the two center stands (R25/3 and R26-R27) and maybe my R25/3 has the wrong center stand? My brief research shows that, at the very least, the stands have different part numbers.

Anyone have any idea what the differences between the R25/3 and R26-R27 center stands might be? Or am I wrong and my bike should be this tall on the center stand? I don't like to start it on the side stand; every kick seems to bend the side stand just a bit more. I should mention I've owned a 1954 R25/3 previously and it did not sit this tall. I was able to easily get it on the center stand and start it there.

Way too tall. I don't know the differences though. Part numbers are different but the microfiche pictures are pretty generic and don't show any differences.

swagsherman,

The comparison list on the Einzylinder forum shows the difference in dimensions between the R25/3 and the R26 main stands. These screenshots may help you determine what you have.

Thank you - looks, by those measurements, to be closest to the R25/3 stand. I'm out of ideas. Unless someone thinks I should be talked out of it, time for some cutting and welding?
