Best way to maintenance chromed steel rims?

What is the best and most cost-effective means?
A friend told me that simple silicone grease would do the job.
Is he right? If so - how to implement?
Or is there another preparation, better?

Asking for a friend who has a 2017 Royal Enfield.
Thanks in advance.

Why would you put grease on your rims? Every bit of dust and dirt will stick to the grease and you'll have a right mess. Why not just use a good chrome polish?

Thanks Jon.
I have no idea, this is what he suggested to this friend with the Enfield.
That's why I'm asking here.
Does not this chrome polish lowers the thickness of the coating over time?

I don't think you'd ever polish off the chrome plate in your lifetime but if you're worried about it just use a good auto paste wax. Or leave if alone and just keep it clean.

To maintain, wax them. The wax gets into the pores and keeps water out. It also makes it easier to clean again.

To clean them I use chrome polish or Brasso. Brasso works best but don't rub it too hard, it will take the chrome off believe it or not.

I was told a long time ago, and it works, that if chrome is basically clean then you just use windex on it to wipe off any smudges, dirt or dust. It works.
