Does anyone know what the pad thickness on both ( selector side and cog side) ends of is supposed to be on a 4 speed shift fork?
Thanks. Frank.

Not sure what you mean but if you post a picture or something I can check mine as it is apart now.

I measured the one I had on hand. Slider side 5.81 mm and 5.83 mm, pretty close for a 55 year old part. Selector side 7.93 mm on what I will call the “major” diameter, this end has a definite curvature.

While I don't have my box apart just yet, this is a subject that interests me.
What I would like to know.
What is the clearance between the selector fork and the groove it runs in ideally meant to be?

Mal, Great question. My guess is that the slider is about 6mm. I don’t have one to check. It’s really the “twist” of the fork in the slider that seems to matter. There is a transmission article in the Winter 2021 Issue (I know who wrote it
). I suggest changing over to the eccentric shift fork bushings as found on the /5; lots of material on the web about that.

Thank you for the response.
I will look the article up.
