Clutch lever 6mm or 8mm screw for R69s?
Clutch lever 6mm or 8mm screw for R69s?
Under the part number 1080166 in the parts book, suppliers now list a lever with M8 screw, but in my '63 R69s the screw is M6.
Are the levers with 6mm and 8mm screw both correct and interchangeable?
Thanks in advance,
Peter

Re: Clutch lever 6mm or 8mm screw for R69s?
Nice find! I'm wondering if what was introduced in 1968 was a precursor to what was going to be used on the /5 models when they came out. The part number of the lever arms are different for /2 and /5.
Are you trying to find a replacement for your /2 and there are none available?

Meanwhile Mark Hugget supplied more information: "The BMW technical drawing dated 13.05.1954 shows that the thread was changed from M6 to M8 on the 16.05.1967. As the majority of machine had an M6 thread, our levers are also with an M6 thread. If an enduser prefers an M8 thread, he can always drill and recut the M6 to an M8."
So that would suggest the levers are interchangeable.
Fortunately at least Mark Huggett has the version with the M6 adjusting screw. Several other suppliers still can supply NOS levers, but for M8 screws. And on eBay someone is offering the levers too, they look like a crude sandcast copy.
Thanks for your help Kurt, learned again!
