Mechanic in Pasadena, CA for 1959 R69 BMW

Post by huertas »

I am moving from Concord, MA to Pasadena, CA. I have a 1959 R69 BMW motorcycle. Could anyone recommend a serious mechanic in, or near to, Pasadena who specialises in vintage BMW motorcycles? Thanks, Pedro Huertas

I live in Altadena, which is adjacent to Pasadena. I don't know anyone near Pasadena who works on old BMWs, but there are several large BMW motorcycle dealerships in the larger area, including BMW Motorcycles of Burbank, Brown Motor Works in Pomona, and Irv Seaver in Orange. I have relied on Seaver for over thirty years, both for my R69S and for a sequence of half a dozen more recent bikes. The owner (Evan Bell) has an impressive collection of vintage BMWS, including a 1923 R2 (irvseaverclassics.blogspot.com) and the shop still has one mechanic (Tom Tohal) who specializes in the older bikes. I've never been disappointed with the work at Seaver and so have less experience with the other large shops.

There is also Black Kat Motorwerks in Tarzana (blackkatmotorwerks.com), a shop that concentrates exclusively on restoration and repair of the older bikes. I've never dealt with them but have seen and been impressed by some of their restorations.

Send me a PM when you settle in and we can compare notes.

Its a long way but in Oceanside, CA there is a German Master Mechanic that goes by the name Ziggy. It seems he is always busy and works on Ariels, Zundapps, Ducati's, BMWs, and other european bikes, new and old. He has that rare disappearing historical knowledge for all these bikes we all love.
His tele # is either: 760295-9516 or 760-470-2051 (i think he deep-sixed the a land line). A long way for you but that is the price of excellence. Ride Safe RKK

I can back up Jon Miller's comments about Irv Seaver . On one of my trips to LA I contacted Evan Green re some parts for my R69S . He was very helpful and supplied the necessary parts . I noticed in his shop that they service BMWs for the LAPD . I recommend at least a contact with them . Hope this helps .
