looking for a leather tank cover for my sport tank.

Post by situationrad »

I posted in the wanted section with no luck. I am looking to replace the old tank cover on my r69s, it's been on there since the 70s and time has caught up with it. It looks very very similar to the one offered by Blue Moon whom tell me their cover is NLA sadly. Does anyone have any leads??

I think you should be able to bring your existing cover to any small leather worker. He can use that one as a template.

If I can't find one I will have to go that route. If I do, I will upload a template for others.

You might get in touch with this guy, in Ukraine. He made a tank cover for my R100S with somewhat different dimensions than the covers on his website, which seem designed to best fit contemporary Urals. I got the cover within 10 days of ordering, and am very satisfied with the quality, especially for the price.

You could see if he'd make one to cover your 69S tank, according to your specifications.

I will look into this. I am not in a real rush, I am still holding out for this older style. His tank covers look really nice.

I am still looking. I was out bid each time on the two that popped up on ebay recently. Has anyone come across one?

I have a very nice original that I'll sell it for somewhat less than those more-than-obscene fleabay bid prices. They were made in France, original price from B&S was $16.90 for the sport tank size...they also made a leather tank bag, and a leather lap robe that I've never seen an example of...contact me off website if you still want one?

Do you know where I can find some useful info on leather tanning?

I totally get the struggle of finding vintage motorcycle parts. While you're on the hunt for that tank cover, you might also want to check out Von Baer's leather goods at vonbaer.com. They have some stylish accessories that could complement your classic ride.
