Exhaust and Rust

Post by sign216 »

My R50 exhaust has some rust freckling. I've gotten it off w bronze wool, but how to protect it?
I imagine most treatments burn off (ex. chrome wax, ACF50, Boeshield, etc).

Any ideas?

I don't think there is anything that you can do, for the reasons that you say, except for a re-chrome or replacement. Just keep it as clean as you can until you can't stand it anymore. Stainless won't rust.

Thanks Bill,

It's too good to re-chrome or replace. I'll just have to keep on it w the wool.

Use brasso. It cleans chrome very well and puts a coating on. Use brasso on a paper towel and a bit of elbow grease. You will not be sorry.

I follow up with windex to keep it clean afterwards.

Give it a try.
