Headlight bucket question

Post by jwonder »

See image below. My headlight bucket has an oval hole for the speedometer cable. Not sure if it’s original or not. This is off a early 1962 R50S and I would like to verify its validity for that year. I think it’s original based on everything else but want to ensure it is before it gets painted.

Thanks to all the historians out there!!!

Not sure on both questions, but it does not look like it is done by hand. If it was the person made a perfect half a circle! 😄

That’s the reason I asked. If it was not a perfect oval I would have chalked it up to stupid people. If this is done by hand I want to meet meet the person who did it! 😄

Any comments are appreciated.

I would hazard a guess that this the shape and probably how it was cut.
