Also make sure the plug wire is screwed into the plug cap and is not loose

Dave is correct the pointers do look like they are in place
This is what it should look like

As Butch mentioned, the amount of corrosion and filth present on your mag is screaming to be addressed. I’d pull the whole mag body and rotor, tear it all down, clean and then properly install. While it’s off, source an Emerald Isle replacement coil and toss that old one in your parts bin.

If no obvious solution is found I would remove the coil & strip the insulating wrap off. Look for carbon traces, places where it appears a spark may have jumped across the surface of the coil. Eventually ur probably going to have to replace the coil anyway but there is a spray on "paint" that may be available from shops that repair mags that i have used with very limited success. It's thick & rubbery, forget the name.
Bottom line is that the mags r a weak link in these bikes & the coils prone to failure. It's smart to not leave home with out a spare. U can also easily convert them to a batt. & coil ignition.
Ur fuel situation & debris in the tank must also be addressed before it is dependable agn.
gud luck

The product I was thinking abt is called Corona Dope.
Here's an ebay link:

When I used it it came in a spray can & when dried it looked like red tank liner only thicker & more rubbery.
At best it has limited value. If u DO have a bad coil it can't be repaired...only replaced.
