10-40 Oil

Post by Micha »

I received a new gallon of this oil from a friend. Do you think I can use it?
I will not make it a habit, he just did not want to throw it away.

Sorry, it's 15-40 grade.
It is an Italian ENI product from the i-base line.

It appears to have the API rating of SL/CF. The last rating by API that was considered OK for flat tappet engines for sufficient amounts ZDDP was SF/SG. By the time they got to SL, the protectants had been removed because they were clogging catalytic converters. But ZDDP was beneficial to older engines.

Personally, I'd pass on it.

I agree with a Schrader , I wouldn’t use it. For the price of a few quarts of oil I’d stay with Valvoline Vr1 40 wt. Your vintage engine is too valuable to risk unnecessary wear.
