R51/3-Transmissions Breathing ?

Post by Micha »

How is excess pressure released from the transmission? Is it via the speedo cable bolt? As I have noticed that it is drilled.

And how about the rear-wheel drive?
A friend told me that in his opinion there should be a small hole in the filling caps/plugs.

I think you'll find on the plungers that those bolts are just cross-drilled for safety/security wire. They are not drilled through for venting. This continued through the early Earles bikes. I assume the venting occurs through the speedo cable.

No, you asked how the transmission was vented. That's what I answered. Where are we not understanding each other?

Well tranny is understood.
Regarding the rear final drive housing, I have the fill hole pluged with an a/m brass plug I found. Do you think it should be drilled?
Thanks 8-)
