The 9/10 carbs are correct for any year R69, even though some of the later ones may have had 85/86. No one will knock you for that.

My 1960 R69 (9/9/59) has been in my custody for 45 years, (I'm 2nd owner) and has the 9/10 carbs; and my 1956 R69 (4/10/56) which I've known for 55 years (but owned only for 35) also has the 9/10 carbs.

If at some point you might hang a sidecar on your bike, the later carbs may be a better choice, that's the reason some of the early bikes got the later carbs installed at some point later in their life.

Thanks for all your answers. Guess 9/10 carbs is "correct" - also for a 1959 R69 :)

Got this answer from BMW:

Dear Mr Starklint,

Thank you for your email.

The datasheet we sent together with the certificate was more a generic one and based on the entries in our own database. For carburettor types we enter the ones that were used when the model came out and don’t factor in later modifications – at least minor ones like in this case. This of course leads to confusion and is one of the reasons we don’t offer the second page anymore for several years now. There was just no feasibly way to cover all this with a reasonable effort and therefore for a reasonable price.

On the other hand even the 1960 owner's manual and repair manual show 1/26/9 and /10 carburettors for the BMW R 69 so I say based on our files the info on the datasheet is correct. It might be a good idea to ask what the info about the other type is based on.

Yours sincerely,
Andreas Harz

Thanks for that Starklint! That's a little bit of peak behind the blue and white curtain!

If there is still an interest, I have a pair of R69 Carbs, /09 and /10, that I'm willing to sell for $2200. They are in beautiful condition. I know this was an old posting, but I'm an old man...
