Hello, I need the wiring diagram for terminal plate for a R27

Post by hugobadmf »

Hello to all of you guys, my brother owns a 65 r27, the bike was restored and got to run with the old terminal plate then he bought a new terminal plate from https://www.meyer-bikes.de/, but that terminal plate is different, still he connected the new part in the same way as the old plate, but now the bike doesnt run, doesnt even have spark, he try to contact Meyer but he doesnt answer, can you guys help me, does the new terminal plate need a different diagram?, or maybe its a faulty new plate?
By the way he got three cables from the new plate that are left unconected, grey, green, and yellow with red stripe,

Thanks in advance

terminal 15/54 lower right side of board in this diagram is hot when key is pushed in any position to power ignition coil, horn, and feed to brake light switch

One wire on the ignition coil goes into the front of the engine and is connected to the points
the other wire to the coil needs to go to 15/54 terminal on the switch board for power to the coil when key is pushed in

see that you have 6 volts at the coil when the key is inserted if not find the wire going to the coil and it is connected to 15/54

Vol 2 of the Doug Rinckes book doesn't show any yellow wires at all, so not sure what that is. There is a green wire that connects from the indicator/headlight flasher switch terminal 54 to terminal 54 on the indicator flasher. There is a grey wire that connects from terminal 56a on the same indicator/headlight flasher switch and the wire connects to terminal 56a on the headlight.

switch
The odd colors are not original
The switch board was used in many other bikes (Jawa ect) so just cap off the extra ones

#30/51 large red from regulator and battery positive
# 31 large brown ground to engine battery negative (looks like yours is a large black)
# 2 not used on R27,used to kill ignition with magneto
# 56 power to headlight dimmer switch
# 58 power to rear running light, accessory socket, and running light in headlight
# 15/54 power to coil, horn, and brake light switch
# HO no internal connection on switch board, connects other horn wire to wire from horn switch
Do you still have no spark and checked that coil has power when key is down

I know it is new, but our library has almost anything you might want or need.

The main library is at: https://vintagebmw.org/library/

The R27 owners manual that has a wiring diagram is here: https://vintagebmw.org/library_data/R27 ... h_1961.pdf

And the workshop manual has a GREAT wiring diagram on page 151: https://vintagebmw.org/library_data/Wor ... rm_R27.pdf

I hope this helps!

The workshop manual confuses me...the R27 diagrams start on page 147 (the description is on 146) and there are two diagrams but I'm not sure why they show two. They mention swivel switch arrangement for both.

1st diagram page 147 shows:
Left hand switch is wired for headlight dimmer and headlight flasher
Right hand switch is wired for blinker/horn

2nd diagram page 149 shows:
Left hand switch is wired for headlight dimmer/horn
Right hand switch is wired for blinker/headlight flasher

"... i got three cables left that i dont know were to connect them the colors are grey, green, and yellow with red stripe..."

Hi Hugo-
To be clear, are the 3 wires (grey, green, and yellow w/red stripe) that you want to identify the 3 wires that came already soldered to the new terminal board?
If so, please identify from which terminal each color originates.

I just ran into the same issue and believe I have it resolved. The new switch board comes hard prewired with dual brown wires- negative/ground; green wire which is on the underside of 15/54 and should go to the center terminal of neutral /charging socket assy; Yellow with red stripe on underside of 56 goes to speedometer light; and light grey which is unmarked on top of the switch board, is a hard point on the detented strip and goes to 58 on the opposite end. That would make the gray wire hot to the parking light 57 by the wiring schematic. In my situation the parking light is clearly marked 58.
The problem is getting wiring that does not color match the original harness especially when this switch plate is used on multiple model BMW's and possibly on other makes of motorcycles. It comes down to rather deliberate visual and/or spark chasing by ringing out the wiring. Personally, I am also converting to the VAPE 12v electrical system which will make things even more fun. Would be curious to know if this had been previously resolved as the thread just dead ended.
