Kickstarter Rubber Stop

Post by CWRoady »

Is there something I am missing on keeping the kickstarter rubber stop in place? It seems like I align this accurately, tighten it up as snug as I dare, yet it doesn't take long until I need to realign it. Not an earth shaking problem I realize, but I figure I can't be the only one that this kinda bugs and thought maybe there is some obvious little tip I just haven't hit upon?

Is this for your R50? There are two (maybe three) sizes and you need to make sure you have the right one for the tube size. You can tighten them down quite tight as well. Let me know which this is for and we can get the part number from the library.

Thanks James, yes, for my '55 R50. I didn't realize there were several sizes. The one I installed is part # 23514034257.

Seems like the only part number shown:

Are the other parts also included?

Seems like BMW also used this for later models after 1970 as a bump stop when the center stand comes up.

Kinda sounds like neither of you have the issue of this rubber stop moving out of position routinely? I am concerned movement of the stop is going to damage the newly powder coated finish, as well as if the kickstarter misses it and contacts the frame. Perhaps I just need to put more umphh into tightening it in place, recognizing any potential damage will be on a reasonably priced and replaceable rubber stop bracket and not something more significant. Thanks for you replies Gents.

I just got my frame powder coated too, and my kickstop moves really easily too.
The powder coat must make it slicker, because I never had this problem when it was just painted.
So far, I just wrapped the area on the frame with electrical tape.
Then fastened the kickstop around that. Seems to work. Time will tell.

I was considering a small strip of some safety grip grit tape (happen to have some) in the same manner you are using the electrical tape. Appreciate hearing the potential for powder coat being a contributing factor.

Hi, is the clip coming close together when the bolt is tightened? when I bought mine the bolt was only threaded half way so the clip would not close fully ,I exchanged the bolt for one with thread all the way down job fixed .
