Re: hand control paint
IMO
I tried it and didnt like it as it was too flat
I also tried gross black and thought that was to shinny
I ended up with a satin black and like it and have used it again on another bike

Re: hand control paint
Color me crazy (see what I did there) but I did a complete study on the correct paint for the hand controls on at least the Slash 2 (and the later plungers). I purchased about 12 different cans of spray paint and tried each one to get a good match. In the end I found the following to be a PERFECT match for the original. I do have an all original R50/2 with 2,200 miles on it so I can compare.
The "Krylon K08974007 SUPERMAXX Spray Paint, Satin Black" is a perfect match for the original. Problem is that it seems like they dont make it anymore (I just looked it up). I think the "COLORmaxx 5557" would also work, but I have not tested it.
The SUPERMAXX is a bit finicky which may be why it is no longer produced, and you need to have a good primer (I use a black primer) and lay down many light costs so it does not scratch. If you rush it then it will scratch easily after you start using it. Maybe the new one is better in that way and is more controllable.
I hope this helps.
