Hello from Virginia. Most of my riding is in and around the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Appalachian Mountains of VA, WV, NC and SC. I restored my 1966 R60/2 back in 2016 and absolutely love to ride it. Last year I also attached a sidecar to it and love the look.

Great bike and I have heard that part of the US is a great place to ride.

yea dont know if I meet you but if have gone to the AMCA meet then we know a lot of people that goes to those meets
Also one in Chester Ma and Charlemont Ma this summer

Hi @skychs, I'm just south of you in Colonial Heights. I'm slowly getting an R27 back on the road, and am interested in whatever Virginia or mid-Atlantic events or rides come up this year. I volunteered at the last Motogiro (Graves Mountain/Syria) since I was without a bike, but hope to ride the next one.

Hello Patrick,
There is a huge Vintage motorcycle presence in the Richmond area. If your on Facebook there is the RVA Vintage Motorcycle Riders group. There is also an RVA BMW club that gets together a lot. You can meet some of the riders at Regency Mall on Sunday mornings for Bikes and Coffee. In the summer there is also a bike night at Mission BBQ on Broad Street.
I also attended the Motogiro at Graves Mtn. I worked the "truck of shame" on Saturday picking up bikes.
If you need any help with your BMW there are several good vintage BMW mechanics in the area.

I Live in Townsville, North Queensland, Australia.
A few places to ride when the wet season isnt in full swing.
I ride a 79 R100T. A 1960 R60/2. A 83 R100RS (thats in bits at the moment)
My T is my daily-ish rider.
After doing some research & contacting BMW archives, my 1962 R60/2 is actually a 1960 R60/2.... it is one of the earlier examples of the /2 models. Vin number 622352. The /2 models started with vin number 622... if im not mistaken.
Built in Sept 1960 & delivered here to Australia in Oct 1960.
Hopefully i can add to the shed!

Welcome to the forum! So BMW Archives said the R60/2 was built in September 1960? In the normal way of numbering things, that probably puts the bike in the 1961 category. Typically if built in the fall of a year, the "model" year for the bike would be the next year. True it does appear that the R60/2 series started with 622xxx, but the first of those bikes were built in late 1960 and would be 1961 models.
If you want to see some of the other VINs and their ordering, click on Knowledge Base and then click on BMW Model Info. Enter your VIN at the top of the page and search. It will take you to the R60/2 spec page. At the bottom of the page is a somewhat outdated PDF file showing entries with model year, VIN, and built/delivery date. You can see that your VIN falls in around other 1961 bikes. It's not perfect but gives a good sense of things.

Hi Kurt.
Thats correct the email said, the bike was built on Sept 30th 1960 & delivered to Melbourne, Australia on Oct 20th 1960.
That would mean as you say my model is a 1961 model? Ive also checked that PDF file aswell & your correct falls slap bang in the middle of the 1961 range.
Ive also got the smaller Carburettors 1/24/95-96 aswell. This according to a few books i have put these on the R60 model.. I guess bmw did subtle changes throughout years.
Thanks very much for the info though Kurt, i have been scratching my head over this, i need to change my insurance & registration details eitherway.

I wouldn't sweat the paperwork so much, especially if it creates a hassle. If it's something that you felt needed changing, it could be done when/if the bike trades hands the next time. As for the carbs, the Bing manual does suggest that your carbs were for the R60, before they transitioned to the /2 version late 1960. I suspect BMW was just using what was available in the parts bin on the assembly line. In reality, the engine they're attached to is still 600cc so as long as you have the jetting and performance dialed in, I'm not sure how much a difference it would make.
