Accelerator cables question

Post by Micha »

Hello guys,
P.O. has put Bing carburetors on my R51/3 project, type 1/24/159 & 1/24/160 (he probably couldn't find the correct type). They are in top shape.
Now I'm missing the acceleration cables.
Will I be right assuming that original R51/3 cables will also suit and fit these carburetors? Will I be ok ordering the R51/3 cables? The right-hand module/handle is a new R51/3 item.

Am I right that the 24 in the part numbers refers to 24 mm intake?
Where these carburetors originally intended for the R67/3 ?

Thanks.

Bing manual says the 149/150 carbs were for the R51/2 and R51/3.

the cables would be the same and 24 does mean 24mm
Salis site also lists the 24/159 and 24/160 for the r51/2 and r51/3
I thought the r51/3 only uses the 22mm carbs

Micha,

If you look at our library (shameless plug) and search for "bing" (here is the link to speed it up: https://vintagebmw.org/library/?search=bing) you will find a link to the benchmark works site on the carb models.

The earlier models (like mine) have the 22mm carbs and the later models had the 24mm ones (1/24/139-140 to be exact). I guess as long as the "tilt" of the carb is correct and the air tubes line up I would say you are good with those carbs. I would like to know if anyone else has any comments on that.

I agree with Salis on the throttle cables as well.
