Rear wheel issue

Post by Ziggy »

Felt the rear wheel slip ever so slightly going through a few turns today (dry road, 60 degrees) I have not noticed this before, but it definitely got my attention. Tire has proper pressure and is essentially new, less than 250 miles. What can cause this?

Is it a 4" or a 3.5"? Sometimes the smaller tire just doesn't have the traction on a wet day, etc. Is the tire installed correctly, with the tube not creased or rolled over itself inside the tire? Rims don't have any defects?

Could be badly worn splines in the differential on the purely mechanical side.

Is the tire actually losing traction?

New tires can have mold release from the manufacturing process. The mold release is slippery. It will wear off as you use the tire. Most street tires are ok, but sometimes you can get a tire that has more of the lubricant and slip a little.

If you really want to notice it, take extra sticky race version of your tire and hit the first corner hard. Don't ask how I know that one.
