Emblem on timing cover

Has anyone see this, have one, or heard of this? Whenever I look at image of 55-69 BMWs I'm always trying to look at the engine timing/front covers for a BMW emblem and I have yet to see another (if it was there, the angle of the picture usually would not show it anyways). This is from my 1956 R69. Emblem is 19.5mm diameter and is in a slight machined bore. The emblem does go through the cover, and a nub can bee seen on the inside above the part number.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum! Can't say as I've ever seen this on a production motorcycle. I'm thinking that someone did this in years past to add some "bling" to their bike. I believe the new release model R18 has an emblem on the front cover...maybe other recent models have been doing something similar.

That has to be an add-on. I've been messing with /2s since the sixties and yours is the only one I've seen.

Thanks so much. It does amaze me that the machining and positioning are so nice for non-factory. It does raise another question about where someone back in the 60s or 70s (or whenever) might have found a small BMW emblem like this. Thanks again.

What is the size? Snowbum has a page on roundels here...maybe some info:

Aftermarket roundels of different sizes were fairly common when the bikes were current. I still have a pair of cufflinks and a badge for a baseball cap squirreled away somewhere. (Don't ask why I have cufflinks! they're not something I would ever be likely to wear!)
