Re: Question on Resurecting a Barn Find

Post by jwonder »

Joe,

I never used mineral spirits, won't go near them. I always used either Prep-sol (which was 3m I do believe and is now outlawed but the brand name has resurfaced) or prep-all (the more environmentally friendly prep-sol). Both prep-sol and the new prep-all are made for the automotive bodywork industry for preparation before paint to remove oil, grease and wax. I used it on my R50/2 which, like yours, was 100% original and sitting for many years.

Buy some and use it on the underside of the tank and parts of the lower frame to give you piece of mind.

Thank you all for the sound advice. Here's the bike, as it sits now.
