Hi I am a new member and very excited I finally found a early BMW which I've
been looking for. I just picked it up 2 weeks ago. Waiting on motor vehicle so I can put in on the road.[image][/image]

congrats I have a 59 the most reliable piece of machinery I have.. dump those handle bars though they are an assault to the eyes.. low bars really complete the out fit.

If I put on low bars do I have to get shorter cables. I do like the look of low bars, and is that what should of been on the bike originally

Yes you will need 4 shorter cables if you get the low bars
Good question not sure if the high bars were a option back in those days
Im sure someone knows
I like the high bars myself
looks like a lot of body weight leaning too far forward with the low bars

Roland writes in his book that from 1955-on, both the Earles fork and US fork bikes were offered with the low or Europa bars as well as the US-style bars with the cross brace. So, they higher bars were available throughout the entire /2 era.

I really don't want to change the cables, and the bars I have are very comfortable. I think I will leave them on especially considering that style could of came originally. Who knows they might be the original bars. Thanks for your replies.
