BMW R50/2 with Duna Sidecar

Post by palica »

New member here.
Based in Montreal, Qc, Canada
Not new to airheads (I have my R90s since 12 years and my /2 since 2.5 years). I am reading and learning a lot (I have almost went thru the 256 pages about Vintage BMW on this forum).
I have also the Barrington bible, the Sablon and many other books, in French and English.
I just wanted to say thank you to all the members who made this incredible database of knowledge and techical information. Very useful and if I can, in return, share some of my experience, I will do it with pleasure.
Also, please excuse my English which can be far from perfect sometimes, French being my mother language.
Here are some pics of my rig:

Now THAT is super cool!!! I love the look of the sidecar, what a wonderful thing to drive down the road in!!!

Wonderful restoration and upholstery on the sidecar as well!

Thank you for the nice words.
I did not do a restauration. Just a big tune up, new paint on both fenders, and a lot of elbow grease (could be cleaner but I prefer to ride it).

I love it too. It is known as the « cold war nose », like on some Studbaker cars. The Duna sidecar is Hungarian, this one is from 1957-59 and does have the MIG 19 nose. It is very light, made of aluminum. Total weight is 40 kg (90 lbs), which is perfect for the « small » R50. The sidecar was designed for small motorbikes (like the Pannonia 250, from the same manufacturer) and can also be mounted on BMW singles.
