RPM at various speeds on '58 R60

Post by jnclem »

Hi all, I'm new here and this is my first pre-1970 BMW. It's a '58 R60 with a 32/11 final drive. Is there a chart somewhere that would show me what RPM it's turning at various speeds in various gears?

I live at 8000', and ride to higher elevations routinely. I am looking for a 25/8 FD, but for now, I spend a lot of time in 3rd gear on our back roads. I know where the shift marks are, I'm just wondering how many RPM's it's turning at say, 55 mph, or 60 mph in third.

Is there a reference for that information somewhere?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! I don't recall seeing any charts like that. But you can do some math and get some idea of what the RPMs are. Snowbum discusses calculating this a little ways down this page:

Fast. Neat. Average. Friendly. Good. Good.
