A way to assure correct functioning of the oil system?

I wondered last night, if I can assure that everything is ok with the oil pressure, if I will run the R51/3 engine a few seconds without its head covers? Should I see any oil stream from the engine to the head/rockers or so?
Maybe through the push rods? Is it visual to the naked eye?

At the end of the day, there was a re-assembly, a use of gaskets, some sealant, so I think some kind of final check is a must
What do you think?

Micha,

I have never seen a pre69 Beemer with a non working oilpump. Worn ... yes. But it still delivered oil to the important spots in the engine.

Oil supply to the valve rockers comes by the push rods. But there is not a lot of oil coming ... so you might need to have the engine idle for a while before you see the first drip coming.

If I were you, I would unscrew the spark plugs and crank the engine a couple of times in order to move some oil around. Then apply some oil to the rockers and go for a short ride. Open the valve covers and there should be some oil left in the covers ... if so, all is good.
