BMW R60/5 crankshaft bushing dilema

Post by luca.stere »

Hi all!

I am rebuilding a BMW R60/5 engine and I have to change the crankshaft bushing. The problem is that the front bushing crankshaft is a little different then the back bushing, it has plus three holes: one for a blocking pin and another two for the oil passages which goes to the headcylinders but they have the same part number. What do I do? How can I order the right parts?

Is it possible the price is for the pair

Maybe the price is for a pair as one would usually replace both bearings while the engine was apart.

I rebuilt an R60/5 from the crank up years ago but cant remember this detail.

I was thinking about that but the catalogue said two pieces are required and that means the price (68$) is for a piece, not a pair. Maybe I will buy only one piece and I will see if it is a pair or a single piece.

Problem solved, I have made the holes and after that I have found out that was also the procedure acording to service manual:

So there is no front crankshaft bushing with holes in order to buy from BMW parts dealers. Below you can see the mounted bearings:
