Post by davidmcctan »

Hi guys,
Just curious...how hard would it be to make all the changes from a R60 to R69s.....

Others on this list can give you all the relevant details, but as a start, check out this discussion on Duane Ausherman's website.

Here are a few of the differences

Here are a few of the differences and I am sure I am missing lots as well.

Flywheel
Crankshaft
Rear main engine bearing
Crankshaft ballancer
Camshaft
Pushrods
Rocker gear
Valves
Valve springs
Heads
Rocker covers
Barrells
Pistons
Exhaust flanges
Head pipes
Mufflers
a nifty R69s badge on rear mud guard

Carburetters
Intake tubes
Hydraulic steering damper
Speedo face

For early model R60s
include
front forks are different
front electrical cover is different

That is what I can think of straight off.

They have a lot of common parts but a fair few differences.

Most Important Thing

Post by Wayne J in MA »

The most important thing would be the proper vin numbers on the engine block, frame and id plate on the steering head. Without those it is a clone, which is fine for you as a rider but don't try to pass it off as a R69S for financial benefit. Not that you would, just saying.

There are 4 basic

Post by MikeL46 »

There are 5 basic differences:

- Complete Engine
- Exhaust
- Steering Damper
- Gearing
- Speedo

That will get you to a useable clone.

I suspect it will be cheaper to buy an R69S.

Hey answer his question fellas!

Post by Slash2 »

He didn’t ask what it would specifically take, he asked how hard it would be. So the answer is of course, sorta hard.

Or maybe really easy? There’s no way to know without a little more information about you.

Do you happen to have a spare R69S engine lying around? Do you have all other necessary tidbits as well? Are you a proficient mechanic with the necessary tools and knowledge?

If so it should be a piece of cake. A real walk in the park.

If however you don’t have any of these things and you’re not a seasoned mechanic, then I would say that it will be very, very hard.

All joking aside, I’d guess Mike is correct, if you really want an R69S, it would make far greater sense to just buy one.

Garbage?

Post by Slash2 »

Guess I just love trash. Feel free to drop all your /2 garbage off at my garage. I’ll make sure it’s properly “disposed” of.

Opinions vary

Post by miller6997 »

My /2 has only held up for 53 years. If I had anticipated that in the beginning, I would have bought a Whizzer.

Duane's site is very useful and his advice is often helpful, but to put it gently, not everyone agrees with his judgements all of the time, especially as regards the R60/2.
