Bing from post '55 to fit pre '55?

Is it possible to modify the flange on a 24mm Bing carb from a post '55 BMW twin such that it can fit the valve head on a BMW twin from '36-'54 and still use the air intake tubes from the earlier motorcycle? Plunger twin 24 and 22mm carbs are hard to find in usable condition?
