GAP

Logic tells me that the left exhaust pipe of my R50 should not touch the frame where it passes below the cylinder next to the frame. Mine does...
To rectify this, how wide should the gap be? A measurement from another /2 would really help so that I have something to aim at when dismantling.

On my R60 the left exhaust just touches the sidestand bracket. Normal for my bike.

Can't described it better than Mike, just touches side stand.
With a vibrating engine and headers I would think that this would lead to dents, scratching etc.
If it should touch, then great! But just wanted some confirmation as these are brand new headers and mufflers fitted.

The left pipe on my '59 R50 restoration just touches the sidestand bracket as well. Been that way since I restored it 3 years and 1500 miles ago. Has caused no problems.

Just a comment, if I recall, this close proximity of the pipe to the frame bothered me also at first. I remember loosening the header at the head, the exhaust clamps and jiggling everything around to gain clearance, then tightening everything up. After a short ride, everything had gravitated back to before. So it's been fine that way ever since.

My R69S has Keihan stainless headers and mufflers. On the left side the header pipe is separated from the sidestand attachment point by about a quarter of an inch. Whoever engineered the Keihan pipes must have tweaked the shape just a bit.
