R60/2 with 6 volts using GPS
Took the bike out today for the first real ride in months...
RUNS PERFECT!
What a feeling..
Have a question though..
I'll be taking a couple longer rode trips out of State and want to run a GPS unit on my stock 6 volt /2
Do you think this converter would work to power my 12v Garmin GPS unit?

Basically I'm thinking if installing this between the battery and power adapter, then plugging the GPS into it.
Would this over work generator?
I wouldn't think so, but it's good to ask.
Also,
I read this thread and wow...

Thanks Gang!

You would install (2) 6 volt batteries in "parallel" for running the bike on the 6 volt system. Then hardwire the GPS in "series" to get the 12 volts.
Use your phone
Garmin is over rated unless you are on a yacht or a plane and have it dogged to your auto pilot.

Thanks for the suggestions
I went ahead and ordered it anyways just to give it a try... seems cheap enough.
Will report back.

Good news! Although I haven't
Although I haven't received that 6-12 converter yet, I was reading though out the forums and someone mentioned that GPS units don't really need that much juice to operate.
I bought one of those USB things that you can plug into your battery charger cable.

Plugged my GPS unit in and viola... works!
I'll go on a good ride this weekend and make sure all is well, but feeling good.
Thanks again for the advice

converter
Great price
Only dropping 6-7 volts down to regulated 5 volts
I think you will like this better than your 1st item ordered
I like the fact that if you have a battery charging pigtail installed this will plug directly into that plug and does not reguire any mounting hardware and also the original accessory socket can be used for other purposes
Yes let us know how it works
I have a 12 volt charging setup on my r69US and this will also work and I could also use it on my other 6 volt bikes
Guess I only need one because I can only ride one bike at a time 6 or 12 volt charging setup

Thanks Tommy! Yep.. I already
Yep.. I already have the pigtail installed so you're right.. easy hook up and removal.
I'll rarely have the GPS unit on.
Talking to some electrical folks, this should work out well since the GPS unit has very little draw.
