Post by Twocams »

I just bought a Davida Pudding Helmet for my puddy little head. They were on sale for $190 on ebay. But now i see they arent DOT approved?
So where does everyone use the Puddings? (that have them).

Not in NY State
If your helmet is not DOT approved you will be fined if pulled over for any reason for not wearing a approved DOT helmet

Some states don't even require a helmet

Its a personal choice giving your state laws

This helmet may look good but it is your head and I would try to be as safe as possible
At any time a dear, a distracted driver, road conditions, ect may put you in position that you would wish you had a better helmet

You are right you know. I would only ware this helmet while riding the R69S. Which is close to home and short rides.
Their other helmets are DOT but not the pudding. Its the kool factor.

Sounds like a bit of rationalization...of course it is for you to decide. I think I could hurt myself quite easily on any of my motorcycles no matter the speed. Not sure why because it's the R69S makes a difference...it can do the ton...but I guess there is that cool factor.

Davida Helmets

Post by sorbo1 »

My personal thoughts on these helmets . They may have been a good design in the 1960s . Today I wear a Full face Shoei . I am 78 years young and ride a 1961 R69S . It is fitted with front wheel double discs from a R90S . I am into safety and would never consider one of these helmets . I still road race competitively . I have an old Shoei that I had when I crashed about 4 years ago . If you send me your E mail address I will send you a photo of what the helmet looks like . I don't know about being " cool " I want to still race and enjoy my R69S .

The added risk of an open

Post by bpw »

The added risk of an open face helmet is incremental when compared to the huge increase in risk of riding a moto instead of driving a car. Arguing about the various levels of gear that we wear to improve our chances slightly seems kinda pointless.

I own everything from full race leathers/back protector/huge gauntlet track gloves to a nice un-armored leather jacket and a 3/4 helmet. I wear all of it at various times depending on what I am doing and feel like wearing.

A few years ago my mother told me "The older I get the more risk I can take since I have less potential life to lose" and I think she has a good point.

I believe when your times up, you times up. But you can increase it with safety. I cant use a full face helmet it messes with my peripheral vision to much. I have 4 shorty helmets.
I just helped a gentleman Sat. in a parking lot and another man. Get his nice Harley dresser up off the pavement. Said it was the 2nd time in over 50 yrs. he dropped his bike. And I know the feeling, thats why I went back to air heads.....their lighter.
But I want to enjoy the scenery, smell the roses and not threw my own helmet sweat.
I have a 70% VA disability (USAF) and my S1 is deteriorating, but im going to ride as long as I can. And see how I like my pudding helmet. May just put it in the box and never use again? But chances are......

I like the look of the Davida

Post by stagewex »

I like the look of the Davida helmets. I have an old open face DOT Bell that I sometimes use around town but not of a long trip or highway. I know that anything can happen at any time... even just puttering around town. That being said it's personal choices. When I ride in a state that does not require helmets like CT (13 miles away) or Florida (I was at Daytona Bike Week last week) I still wear a helmet. My choice and I feel kinda weird no wearing one.

A Davida for $190 seems ultra cheap to me. Aren't they usually $300-$400? I know they are upfront telling you that they are not DOT.
