New to me ‘62 R69S

Hi guys

I’m brand new to airheads and to motorcycles in general. I bought this early R69S from Scottie’s workshop last week. It’s currently in a transporter truck coming to Florida. I look forward to sharing my adventure with this bike with this community. Not only is it my first airhead but it’s my first motorcycle of any kind.

Would appreciate any thoughts. Am I out of my mind? I look forward to the challenge. Already bought the Clymer guide and have sourced a Barrington Motor Works book which I’m negotiating to buy. Also have a local mechanic who I think is up to the job but any recommendations for South Florida would also be appreciated.

Thanks

Looks good! Did Scottie give it a going over? If so, you should be good for a while. Anything in the tool box? Originally the air filter housing was not painted...it was a grey/silver color...something to consider if you want to change it back.

He Re-did the electrical completely and he had used this bike for a recent 2017 melee. He had the bike for about a year and he made sure it was up to par. No tool box though. Will plan on buying one.

I noticed the black air filter as well. Do plan to change it back eventually.

Looks really nice, congrats.

I think you will enjoy the bike a lot. If Scottie went over it at all, you should be good. Cosmetics can be addressed a little at a time or as you see fit. Read and learn all you can about the bike in general and very closely about anything you plan to tackle yourself.

Looks great. That should clean up very well.

If you want to do your own air cleaner this is how I did mine. Im very happy with the outcome.

I was at the same place as you, except I had been riding sport and dirt bikes for awhile. No mechanical experience. This forum has been a great help to me and I'm sure it will be to you. I think I saw the video of you picking up the bike on the Scottie's site. Nice bike!

Thanks everyone for the replies. Happy I bought it and look forward to enjoying it and asking lots of questions here. I have some mechanical experience working in cars.

Sounds a bit like my story. My first street bikes were a 1969 R60/2 and a 1977 R100/7
The experience with the bikes and the help from this forum is priceless.
Enjoy the bike, looks great!
