Here is my new to me 1960 R60. Traveled 3000+ miles round trip to pick her up. Super excited!!!!!!! Just changed all the fluids, oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets. Wanted everything fresh for me to keep track of. Slinger service was done in July 2015 by Max BMW. Less than 300 miles since service. Runs fantastic. Love this bike. I'm ready to put a ton of miles on her!!!!!!!

So glad you are chuffed - I am coming to think those folk who just buy one ready to ride are falling on their feet. After I get the bike finished I think a lot of gloss will have worn off - and I won't be able to ignore a single rattle, click or aberration.

Never mind it is a different experience - and I finished the rebuild on y son's R60 motor and I di enjoy toddling around the park at run in speeds - so yes there is light at the end of the wind tunnel.

Congratulations on your new addition to the family!! That looks like a nice bike you got there,it almost looks like original paint(?) Have fun and enjoy getting to know that sweet machine. If you can find it,the Valvoline VR1 racing oil has zinc/ZDDP additive and helps keep the flat tappets and cam alive,great for these motors.

Sounds like the trip was definitely worth it! Maybe those are old pictures, but it appears that the rubber sleeves connecting air tubes to the carbs are cracked. Suggest you get those replaced as they may be allowing unfiltered air to get to the carbs. She might even run better!!

Hey, my Dad lives in Vero Beach and I usually run down to visit him at some point during Daytona Bike week. Might be bringing my r60/2 in March. She's been there before, 2015. I brought the K75 last year because I was riding with a couple speedy buddies. This year I think I'll slow down again and smell the roses.

Very fine looking R60 happy for you, and it sounds like it found a good home. I would check those rubber components all over and the intakes as Schroeder noted are important as not only the unfiltered air (Florida fine sand and salt will get in there and over a few thousand miles cause excessive ware, also allows excess air in the mixture and can cause a lean mixture which by the color of the left head pipe you may be running lean already if you run at night you may see it glow ( a sure sign that it's too lean ) and running too hot. Take good care of it and it will give you lots of pleasure and fun in return. Lots of luck and all the best.

Not to be argumentative, but how can letting air leak into the intake system beforethe carb lead to lean mixture? It is my Understanding that the carb mixes air at a prescribed rate based on the air flow through the carb. In essence the carb doesn't "care" whether or not the air has been filtered or not, it is just volume of air. (Unlike a intake leak on the other side of the carb!)

Now I could understand how this could happen if the air filter is excessively plugged, but with a clean air cleaner, I don't suspect it would make much difference. That said, i would fix the intake rubbers anyway for obvious reasons.

You need not be corrected as you Are absolutely right on that, not to make excuses for my self but it was late last night, I was having trouble falling sleep and decided to log on and see what was goin on, really I was thinking of the rubber boot on the other side of the carb as you mentioned, that is the way it is on an old Kawasaki and Harley in my stable.
I happily stand corrected and do appreciate you bringing it to light! I jump to that assertion because the color of the pipes reminded me of a time when the intake leak on the Harley turn the pipes that Rosie color due to excess heat from a lean mixture. Before I took the R69 apart for the resto pipes never looked like that and thought to point it out to help avoid a bad condtion on that beautyful R60. Anyway thanks for the correction. ~
