Castle nut

San,

You and I are at the same point in our restoration so it looks!! My castle nut would not budge because it was rusted. I put PB blaster in there and used a castle nut wrench I purchased from BenchMarkWorks and it came right off. I bought a cheap $10 wrench on eBay and it did not fit right. I suggest buying the one from benchmarkworks!

I can´t unscrew the shock.

I cant unscrew the shock from the mount. It just turns and turns.

I tried heat but nothing.

Any suggestions I don´t want to destroy the strut.

It's Probably Stripped

The threads are probably stripped. I have one like that that just would not come - never did get it. You could cut the lower off, but a used damper is probably not worth saving. I ended up with all-new dampers and a lower shock eye to replace the stripped unit.

My plan is to service the dampers, but I more important I want to save the original shock eye.

Any suggestions?

My good friend Jim cabinet blasted the frame. (Text belongs to him). Just a few spots remain. A little more cabinet time will finish the cleaning process. Epoxy prime next!

This tab holds the side left side of rear fender. More cabinet time needed on this spot. Can you see the small crack in the deep pocket of the previous repair?

The welder missed. See weld bead laid down nicely on tube. But, tube and foot peg mount casting not firmly joined to tube by weld along backside.

More cleaning reveals more cracks. Jim will help me weld them all.
(Actually, we both admire the way Zanieda has been saved again and again.)

I can't see any of the pics you posted. But glad to hear an update! Further info on your shock problem - I was removing a rear cartridge and discovered that the pressed-together section of the cartridge near the bottom was turning instead of the whole cartridge. I could see this on the rear one since the lower shock eye is much shorter than the front. I was able to cut off the damper and grasp the remaining piece with the threads and unscrew it. This is likely what you have going on with the front one and the same for the one I have that I thought was stripped. Haven't figured a way to get it out yet, but I'm sure it can be done.
