Hot and Cold.

Post by San Arthur »

First I placed my October Fest beer mug and the hub bearings cassette in the freezer for a few hours.

Then I heat the hub with my souffle torch.

And it almost fell right inn, a little persuasion was necessary.

No problems with the beer to report.

Inner tube

Post by San Arthur »

A small laps-time of me fighting against the tire and inner tube.
I won.

Air Filter

Post by San Arthur »

I found my lost air filter. Well my good friend Jim found it, it came back home after almost 4 years lost

I decided to just remove the paint and leave it bare. What do you think? Is a good remainder of the very hard life Zenaida had in this past 62 years.

Love the bare metal and love the progress overall. Keep at it! Since you are just down the road in SA - maybe I'll see you out on her one day (I'm down the road a bit in Austin - but visit from time to time).

The strangest thing.

Post by San Arthur »

As I mentioned before this motorcycle had a very hard life. Several parts were non-BMW parts. When I cut the spokes some came off very easy, they were of a thinner caliber.
And I just realized the nipples were smaller too and to compensate someone pluged with paste the holes in the rim smaller to accept these nipples.

They used some sort of cement that crumbled when I used a ¼ inch brill bit, BY HAND, NO DRILL to clean each of the 36 holes.

Can you see how small the holes are, and inner rim had a lot of glue from duck tape.

I used the drill bit to clean the holes BY HAND. Always following the direction for the spoke.

This is the residue that came off the holes.

I can finally roll it out of the lift to work on the other projects while I wait for the humidity to drop and paint the lines, apply the clear coat on the fenders, tank and light bucket.

What is the part number for that? I can't find it on the fiche. I'm wondering if that is some kind of "beauty ring" designed to hide where the axle enters the hub.
