Need a different style sidestand

Had the side stand powder coated about 6 months ago with the center stand. Center stand works great. But put the side stand on and it hits my new headers. I understand they dont work all that great anyway. So Im going to buy an aftermarket, made for the vintage BMW sidestand.
Is there one that works well and can be deployed will sitting on the bike. Or are they all made to deploy after getting off?
Thanks for any advise.

My old one will be for sale im sure if anyone needs one.

Possibly check with Vech to see what he might suggest. I personally don't use my sidestand...I believe it is original. People like the Brown sidestand...check Snowbum's page for contact info:

One thing that should be considered is how these aftermarket stands attached. In some cases, they use a clamp around the header pipe which then ends up bending the pipe. Consider something that uses a different method of stabilizing the stand.

In general, the sidestand should be used only for light duty, maybe holding the bike while you transition in/out of the garage. In no way does the sidestand support the bike for starting, etc. Too much stress would be put on it. I wouldn't even think sitting on the bike while on the sidestand is a good idea. IMO.

The one I have and like a lot

The one I have and like a lot is from Bob van Farowe. It's similar to the old Brown sidestand. Very well made and easily deployed sitting on the bike.

Bob has a small machine shop. His contact details are:

tel. 01-616-896-8469

Calling works best. He's old school - when I bought mine, he sent it and told me to either send it back if I didn't like it or send him payment. I think I paid $145 for it.

Highly recommended.

I am attaching a picture of what I have in my side stand drawer.... I don't use them on my bikes so I would like to sell them if any would work for you....not sure, I think #1 and 3 are the same....#2 has a bit longer underside where it attaches to the frame (all Browns I think)
#4 is a Browns S standcame off a R100 and #5 is a standard sidestand off a /6

$100 for any of them (#1 thru 4) and $30 for #5 also $15 for shipping anywhere in the USA...

I do not use side stands on my bikes...just don't like them... these are stands that I took off bikes over the years... I think there are examples on Duane's website... I just always thought they were Browns...

At 70 years ole, It is time for me to start cleaning out the shop of stuff I know I will never use..

I just got a side stand similar to Joel's #4 in his pictures. I need to mount it to the rear engine mounting bolt (stud). Thought I saw some bolts that were a wee bit longer than stock. To mount this style sidestand. Just needs to be about 1/2-3/4" longer. Any ideas as to whom sells them.

thanks

I have a Flanders, and it works well, except the bike leans pretty steeply. I only use it for short stops. There is a thread on how to mount them on this site.
