I'm having difficulties understanding the text and the details of this paragraph .

Gear Lash
With the pinion gear installed in the housing, and the ring gear and it's associated needle bearings and yellow metal shim installed, if you measure the amount of rotational play in the ring gear, at its edge. That is the gear lash number.
