I plugged the numbers into the boxes on the left. They are, in fact, R51/3 numbers.

You may be able to obtain the production and delivery dates from the BMW Archive folks at

Hi Micha, the frame would appear to be a very late 1952 (November or December) or early 1953 the engine is likely the same, I'm guessing December/January.

R26 carb

Post by speight1823 »

A friend of mine has an R26 he has just restored. The bike runs fine but when he taps off the throttle the bike carries on revving for about 10 seconds which makes gear change difficult . The only thing I can find wrong is the carb slide has about 0.5 mm clearance on the carb bore. The wear is all on the bore at the bottom of the carb bore.
The only repair I can think of is to bore out the worn bore of the carb and to sleeve the slide with 2 thin brass sleeves ,spit horizontally around the small locating key.
Has anyone done successful worn carb body overhauls? What method did you use?
What would the as new clearance be on a 29.5mm dia Slide?
Bill
