Do not enlarge the holes in the backing plate...the engine and timing was designed so that all adjustments could be made within the given parameters. What you need to do is change the points gap. A small amount of gap adjustment will make a big change in the location of the timing marks. The gap controls the length of timing that the coil received charging current...when the points are closed, current is flowing to the coil. On a two-cylinder engine, the gap is not that critical...it is critical on multi-cylinder engines such as 6- or 8-cylinders. The nominal points gap is 0.016" but can vary down to around 0.012 or up to 0.022". If I have it right, closing the gap will retard the ignition...widening the gap will advance the ignition.

Ordered!

Any advice on how to install those tiny rivets? Do I need a special tool for that?

When I replaced my felt block, I brought it to Ace Hardware and found a couple small machined screws/washers/nuts and secured it that way.

This is a known problem with cheap replacement points. But Norris only!!

Update:

I've manage to set timing with the after market points and the backfire and popping are gone.

I've also replaced all carb jets and needles to the correct specs and the bike run much better with good pull and much more power!

I've ordered new Noris points and new felt. hope it will make setting timing much easier.

Thank you all for your advices !!!
