Re: New breather plate on 20 degree cam gear
Just found the source of my over pressure on engine block. Breather works great, but........
While working the first time on this engine , I used too much assembly lube paste, and by mistake lubed pistons and cylinders, to " AVOID" dry running on first start up, my eyes where fogged by the happy moment of completing this engine after at least 10 years on a corner, waiting to be alive again.
I always lube parts just with engine oil, but this time I used this lube, Long story short, Piston rings NEVER seats!!! Cylinders were glazed and compression gases where increasing block pressure.
Take care when using assembly lube, another history to my own learnings book.
Yesterday vapor blasted (with glass beads) cylinders heads to remove all carbon buildup caused by burned oil, then washed in ultrasonic cleaner for 30 each with cleaning solution heated to 175F. Cylinder received a cleaning with ball honing tool until has no shine and cross pattern. New piston rings and seals.
Regards
Rodolfo

Re: New breather plate on 20 degree cam gear
I had always expected some assembly lube to dissipate on first or second oil change.
Maybe, given your experience that is not the case.
That first start up is so crucial, it could be easy to over do the assembly lube.
Food for thought.,
