My ‘55 is documented the same way and my assumption is the same re: transfer date being documented as delivery date. BMW states mine was “built March 15th, 1955 and delivered on March 16th, 1955 to the BMW importer Butler & Smith in New York City.”

I think it suggests that Butler & Smith took possession of them at the factory, thus it was "delivered".
Ahh....that would make sense.

coffee can .. I seem to recall Vech telling me they came both ways when I asked him about it. Perhaps he will see this and weigh in.

My bikes' origins were also factory documented similarly; noting same, or next day, delivery dates.
I wondered if it was a language thing, or whether B&S (or whomever) was literally waiting outside the factory gate.
A query on this to Andreas Harz got this reply-

"The delivery date is – as far as we can say – the date the bike left the factory storage, not the day it arrived at the country it was sent to."

So just slightly different word usage; while "delivered" to us may mean "received," from the German factory point of view it simply meant "shipped" or "sent."
Best-

It has to do with how the Bill of Lading is written, FOB origin or destination. Origin means the buyer owns it when the item is out the door and the shipper has no responsibility for what happens to it. Destination means the buyer doesn't own the item until it is delivered. Obviously, BMW wouldn't ship to B&S or anyone else any other way but FOB origin.
