Veigel Speedo goes 180

Post by Darryl.Richman »

I'm a little hazy here, but I believe that Veigel was only used by BMW from about 1935 to 1955. Maybe an R17 or an R66 had a 180kmh speedo, but the R12 had a 120. Postwar, the R51 and R67 models had 160 kmh speedos, so maybe an R68 had 180.

Thank you, my guess is the R66 had a 160 and you are right about the R68.

I went to take pix but the batteries were dead. They'll be up soon.

Here's a pic of my R51/3's Veigel speedo. The R68 would have one with a similar appearance.

It's a 1953 R51/3. It has been a great deal of fun...

Unfortunately, I was in an accident on it in 2005. I am only just now finishing up the restoration.

my circa 1932 r16 original speedometer goes to 160kph and is made by Veigel. It is white faced and needs a rebuild!

If you are in Europe, you might try Tacho Service.

They repaired the Walzentacho (scroll speedometer) from my 1935 R12 quickly and economically.
