R51/1 Bing Float source

Post by Bigsieuk »

I'm pleased to say I've added an R51/1 to the garage. Of the very few things I need for it are an original speedo and new floats for the carbs.

Can anyone confirm float weights and a supplier?

Lui you must rebuild yours one quickly and maybe next year we can go for trip :)

I had same carbs on mine and sold them:/ i hope to get amal in good price but its impossible :/
Remove this carb connectors beatween heads and carbs. Carbs should fit straight to the heads.

Floats

Thanks Mike,

Believe it or not I met a guy who lives 15 min from me who had a draw full of Bing parts, and a lock up full of 1960's BMW parts including a R750.

John, I went back and reread

John,

I went back and reread your post. I have never heard the term a R51/1 before? You meant to say a R51, correct? It was R51, than R51/2 and the R51/3.

R51

Post by Bigsieuk »

Hi Mike,

That's correct. R51 June 1939, no down tube under seat (ref R66 thread). Pre war UK AFN Ltd. import, full history. Needs original AF carbs (very expensive!) and mph speedo (unobtainable).

Any update on the battery boxes?

Regards,

John
