BW 38 sidecar

Post by Bigsieuk »

I have been offered a bw38 sidecar boat only, it's in original condition, blasted and primed. It's missing its boot (trunk) lid though. Anybody bought one recently? I know the repros go for €1300 but I'd be interested to see if anyone has bought one recently?

Thanks.

And how do I tell if it is a genuine bw38?

What are the key things to look for to ID an original too?

Thanks.

It appears that this model is by Zündapp. I googled "sidecar BW38" and got a lot of hits...you might be able to look at some of those to get an idea of what to expect.

I think BW38 (Beiwagen 1938)

Post by Bruce Frey »

I think BW38 (Beiwagen 1938) is Zundapp's designation for sidecars supplied by them that were made by Tabel and Royal. BMW's designation for the same sidecars would be 285 or 285/1.

If you check on the Yahoo Kradrider site, there are folks there that are into these and can be of more detailed help than I. As with the R71, the Russians made very close copies of these sidecars.

Cheers,

Bruce

I think i talked to you

I think i talked to you already, its a Zundapp BW38 boat. Made for Zundapps and NSU bikes. Its a nice boat and worth at least $1,500. Its not worth much more honestly, you can still find original boats but its the condition that doesn't bring high dollars and something like this thats outlasted the war is pretty impressive. Usually these are beat to hell.

Thanks Mike, I'm on the look out for an original chassis now to fit onto my r12.
